ASTM E 2149
Antimicrobial Activity of
Immobilized Agents under Dynamic
Contact Conditions
Test Purpose
The purpose of this microbiology
lab test is to examine the
rate-of-kill of a treated test
material against a Sponsor
selected pure culture
microorganism suspension. This
is accomplished by exposing the
target microorganism to the test
material and inspecting the
solution for potential survivors
at various time periods.
Test Summary
A suspension of test organism is
added to a flask containing the
test material and shaken. The
test organism is exposed to the
test material for each specified
contact time. After exposure, an
aliquot of the suspension is
transferred to a neutralizer and
assayed quantitatively for
survivors. Appropriate purity,
sterility, microorganism
population and neutralization
controls are performed.
