JIS Z 2801
Japanese Industrial Standard
test for Antimicrobial Activity
and Efficacy
Test Purpose
The purpose of this microbiology
lab test is to produce data that
provides basic information on
the rate-of-kill of a
surface-bound antimicrobial
agent. This method may also be
adapted to testing other
materials.
Test Summary
An aliquot of test organism is
exposed to a surface-bound
antimicrobial agent and covered
with a cover slip. After
exposure, the material is
neutralized and assayed
quantitatively for survivors.
Appropriate culture purity,
sterility, inoculum count,
stainless steel control and
neutralization controls are
performed.
Japanese Industrial Standard
test for Antimicrobial Activity
and Efficacy – Modified for
Virus Testing
Test Purpose
The purpose of this modified
microbiology lab test is to
produce data that provides basic
information on the rate-of-kill
of a surface-bound antimicrobial
agent against viruses. This
method may also be adapted to
testing other materials.
Test Summary
An aliquot of virus is exposed
to a surface-bound antimicrobial
agent and covered with a cover
slip. After exposure, the
material is neutralized and
assayed quantitatively for the
presence of the test virus.
Appropriate virus, test
substance cytotoxicity, and
neutralization controls are run
concurrently.
