Canadian Virucidal Efficacy Test
Test Purpose
The purpose of this study is to
evaluate the virucidal efficacy
of a client's product against a
specific virus according to test
criteria and methods approved by
the Canadian General Standards
Board for registration of a
product as a virucide for hard
non-porous surfaces. The AOAC
Use Dilution for Liquids
microbiology lab test or the
AOAC Germicidal Spray
microbiology lab test must be
conducted prior to running the
virucidal efficacy test.
Test Summary
A film of virus, dried on a
glass surface, is exposed to the
test substance for a specified
exposure time. Following
exposure, the virucidal and
cytotoxic activities are removed
from the virus-test substance
mixture, and the mixture is
assayed for viral infectivity by
an accepted assay method.
Appropriate virus, test
substance cytotoxicity, and
neutralization controls are run
concurrently.
