Virucidal Efficacy for Laundry
Additives
Test Purpose
The purpose of this test is to
evaluate the virucidal efficacy
of a client's product against a
specific virus on fabric and in
the wash water following a
simulated laundry procedure to
comply with the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency
requirements for a virucidal
laundry disinfection
registration. The EPA Laundry
Additives Disinfectant
microbiology lab test must be
conducted prior to running the
virucidal efficacy laundry test.
Test Summary
Virus dried on separate pieces
(swatches) of scoured fabric are
exposed to the test substance
for a specified exposure time
under simulated use conditions.
Following exposure, the
virucidal and cytotoxic
activities are removed from the
virus-test substance mixture,
and the mixture is assayed for
viral infectivity by an accepted
assay method. Appropriate virus,
test substance cytotoxicity, and
neutralization controls are run
concurrently.
